About Laura
I'm Laura Cowley, an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) and therapist in Launceston. In my practice, I bring warmth and empathy, creating an environment where we can build meaningful connections together. Using a trauma-responsive framework, I specialise in supporting young people aged 12 and above, adults, and their support networks to encourage person-centred change.
While I address a wide range of issues, I'm particularly passionate about supporting people who are dealing with depression, anxiety disorders, work or school related challenges and developmental or relational trauma. I also have a special focus on helping individuals navigate challenges related to eating disorders and body image concerns.
I hold a Bachelor of Social Work from Charles Sturt University and a Graduate Certificate in Trauma-Responsive Practice from Flinders University. I have been trained to deliver evidence-based therapies, including cognitive and behavioural therapies such as Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), as well as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and family therapy interventions, including family-based treatment for anorexia nervosa.
